Amazon India has introduced Amazon Diagnostics, an at-home diagnostics service that allows customers to schedule lab tests and appointments, as well as access digital reports through the Amazon app.

The service, established under Amazon Medical, provides home sample collection in less than 60 minutes and lab results within six hours across six cities.

It was developed in partnership with Orange Health Labs and is available in Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Mumbai and Hyderabad.

In a statement, Amazon Diagnostics said the new service is designed to address challenges, including "long wait times and inconsistent quality of service."

The platform also features real-time slot visibility, map-based address validation, digital report access through the Amazon Health dashboard and automated test preparation instructions.

"Amazon Diagnostics represents a significant step forward in making healthcare more accessible, reliable and convenient for all our customers," Jayaramakrishnan Balasubramanian, category leader for Amazon Medical, said in a statement.

"By providing high-quality, doctor-verified lab testing seamlessly integrated into the Amazon app, we are empowering our customers with world class diagnostic facilities from the comfort of their home."

THE LARGER TREND

Amazon is involved in various healthcare initiatives.

In May, Talkapace, a virtual behavioral healthcare provider, collaborated with Amazon Pharmacy to enable Talkspace members to fill prescriptions from their Talkspace provider via Amazon Pharmacy.

Last year, Talkspace partnered with Amazon Health Services to help the tech giant's customers check their eligibility for and enroll in Talkspace's mental health services.

When Amazon customers search for terms such as "family therapy," "sleep help" or "stress relief" on Amazon.com, they will find therapy and psychiatric services that can assist with these issues.

They can then check their employer or health plan benefits to determine if they have access to these services. Via the partnership, customers can also visit Amazon Health's webpage to check insurance coverage for Talkspace and review the mental health company's offerings.

In 2024, Rula announced that its network of more than 10,000 mental health providers would be available to Amazon customers via Amazon's Health Conditions Programs.

Health Condition Programs allow customers to access digital health benefits provided by their employer or insurance carrier.

Additionally, Amazon repositioned its healthcare offerings last year by rebranding and integrating Amazon Clinic into its hybrid primary care platform, One Medical

The One Medical pay-per-visit telehealth service is available nationwide and offers consumers two options for healthcare services: a pay-per-visit model and a membership-based model.

The pay-per-visit service enables customers to consult with healthcare providers for common conditions, such as pink eye, the flu or sinus infections. Messaging visits are priced at $29, and video visits cost $49.

Another company in the at-home diagnostics space is Hims & Hers, which in February acquired at-home lab testing facility Sigmund NJ LLC, also known as Trybe Labs

Hims & Hers said the acquisition of the New Jersey-based testing facility enables customers to take better control of their health and allows providers to access data and biomarkers that may help identify the risk of disease before it develops.
