Connected health data network b.well Connected Health announced partnerships with weight-loss company Noom, cardiometabolic-focused healthcare technology company Welldoc and health insurance company Humana, as a part of each company's commitment to the CMS Health Technology Ecosystem.

Humana will allow individuals to connect and access their health data across providers, health plans, pharmacies and digital health applications.

The health insurer will also have real-time access to members' data for claims processing. The integration will also help Humana respond to data requests from providers and other health plans.

The strategic partnership between b.well and Welldoc, which offers an AI-enabled app for cardiometabolic health, will enable Welldoc to access patient-authorized health data. Welldoc users will be able to access their health information through b.well's national health data network.

Noom and b.well will jointly launch Noom Health Record Connect, which will enable Medicare beneficiaries to connect their medical records to the Noom app.

Noom will also be able to use the data, including diagnoses, medications and lab results, to personalize a member's experience by suggesting the most relevant programs, content and tools for specific health needs.

"One of the biggest barriers to truly personalized healthcare is data silos – patient health records aren't easily shared between providers, health systems and digital platforms," Geoff Cook, CEO of Noom, said in a statement.

"With this integration, we're changing that. A Medicare member can now connect their health records to Noom in minutes. We're also making our flagship Noom Weight program completely free for the first 30 days for all Medicare members who are new to Noom."

THE LARGER TREND

During a recent interview with MobiHealthNews, b.well's CEO Kristen Valdes outlined how companies that have pledged to participate in CMS' Interoperability Framework that was announced last year are communicating in real time over Slack.

Valdes said the immediate line of communication speeds up problem-solving on technical and operational challenges compared with traditional regulatory processes.

Through Slack channels, participants pitch, analyze and co-develop tools for patient matching, data exchange standards and other interoperability issues, Valdes said.

Valdes described this approach as a model for public-private cooperation to accelerate healthcare interoperability.
