Wheel, a virtual care staffing and services vendor, launched its integrated medication access offering installed within Wheel's Horizon platform and powered by Amazon Pharmacy.
The collaboration aims to create a virtual-first experience that links prescriptions to rapid delivery of popular treatments such as GLP-1s and hormone therapies.
In a statement, Wheel said the capability "gives patients and providers access to real-time inventory, pricing visibility and delivery options."
According to Wheel, the offering is already being utilized by wellness and digital health brands, with additional launches planned across pharma and consumer health companies.
Wheel said the program offers free, same-day delivery in select locations. It also allows for checkout with automatic manufacturer coupon integrations.
Clinicians will have visibility into the delivery status as well. Expanded access is available in rural and underserved areas.
Companies already taking advantage of Wheel's partnership with Amazon Pharmacy include Respin Health, a women's health company, and Wondr Health, a behavioral health firm.
Respin Health, founded by actor and women's health advocate Halle Berry, provides personalized health and wellness support for women navigating menopause.
Through Wheel, Respin members get treatment for a range of menopausal and perimenopausal symptoms, including hormone therapy and GLP-1s.
Wondr Health describes itself as a behavior-based obesity management company that leads participants through an onboarding process to enable direct, self-pay access to GLP-1s.
"Today’s patients expect their care to move at the speed of their lives and we agree," Michelle Davey, CEO of Wheel, said in a statement.
"Patients deserve clarity, affordability and speed. With Amazon Pharmacy embedded into our clinical workflows, we’re delivering on that promise and closing the gap between script and shipment."
THE LARGER TREND
In 2024, infant monitoring company Owlet and Wheel partnered to enable Wheel's clinicians to prescribe caregivers Owlet's medical pulse oximetry wire-free sock for infants.
Owlet's BabySat utilizes pulse oximetry technology to monitor a baby's heart rate and oxygen saturation levels, alerting caregivers when readings fall outside prescribed ranges.
The company states the device was intended for use under a healthcare provider's recommendation in cases where babies require home monitoring.
Through the partnership, an infant's caregiver can directly obtain a prescription for BabySat via Wheel's online portal or through its clinicians.
Last year, Wheel also partnered with Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company, the mental health platform Talkspace and diagnostic services company Health Gorilla.
The collaborations enabled Wheel to deliver mental health services, affordable home delivery prescription drug pricing options, and lab and diagnostic services through its integrated virtual care ecosystem.
In May, Talkspace collaborated with Amazon Pharmacy to streamline the pharmacy experience for Talkspace members, facilitate medication management and provide support for providers.
The alliance enables Talkspace members to fill prescriptions from their Talkspace provider via Amazon Pharmacy.
That same month, Serve You Rx, a pharmacy benefit manager, partnered with Amazon Pharmacy to offer home delivery services for maintenance medication to its members.
Serve You Rx members have access to online transactions, transparent and upfront pricing, automatic refill options, 24/7 access to clinical pharmacists, customer care support and free same-day home delivery of prescriptions in select regions.
